5 Tips to Growing Your Network
Networking is even more critical than you might think. Powerful relationships help build successful businesses and make you and your organization stand out from others!
If you’re wondering about how to get connected with the right people within your chosen field, you’re certainly not alone. The good news is that we’re here to help!
Below are five tips for improving your networking skills.
#1—Don’t rely on the computer.
Connecting with people on the Internet is a good way to get started, but it’s far better to create relationships in “the real world,” so to speak. This makes them more tangible and more stable. How many relationships last a long time when they’re only cultivated through the Internet? Not many.
#2—Make networking an acquired behavior.
Many times people feel embarrassed to ask somebody they don’t know for help. That’s why it’s important to network regularly: so that doing so becomes a habit. The more you do it, the better you’ll become. Pretty soon, you’ll build relationships with many people, and it will be easier for you to ask for advice.
#3—Prepare your personal elevator speech.
Write it down, and explore your advantages thoroughly. Identify who you are, what you’re doing, and your value proposition in 60 seconds. That’s how you get people’s attention.
#4—Understand the person with whom you’re talking.
If you find someone who’s worthy of building a relationship, check out their experiences and hobbies and get as much information as you can get. Your level of preparation will impress others.
#5—Pay more attention to powerful contacts.
Whether you agree or not, some people are worth more time than others. First, identify who those people are, then talk with them regularly and develop your own powerful pool of contacts. Your opportunities are waiting!
How well do you excel in these areas? In which ones do you need improvement? Anybody who is seeking to grow their career and take advantage of prime opportunities must sharpen their networking skills and abilities . . . and these five tips are an excellent place to start.
